A Long Time

Sun Nov 5, 2006, 10:47 AM
Today.

Today I have been made aware of just how long it has been since I created this deviantART account, and how little I have actually done with it.

Today I realized that DeviantART has long been my favorite online community, because of its openness, its spontaneity, its friendliness, its youth, and its age. I want to give something back to it, because I get to take a lot from it.

Who am I? I am a 24 year old computer programmer living in rural lower Michigan. I am a writer and a columnist and a journalist and a would-be playwrite. I am a music aficionado. I can't draw to save my life, and my photography is only so-so, but I support artists in what they do, because it is better for all of us that way.

I am a Seeker. This means, among other things, that I strive to honor and respect every living thing. It means that I will not take the life of any living thing without due cause and careful consideration, and never, ever for pleasure or greed or apathy. It means that I try not to take myself too seriously, and that I approach everything with a little skepticism. It means that I believe the simple answer is almost always the right one. It means that I believe in Hope.

It means that everything, everywhere, is a work in progress.

But enough about me.

I have decided that I will embark of a couple of different projects. The first is a photographic project that I saw on another Web site. It is not original in the least, but it is powerful enough that I don't care. Starting on my birthday (November 13) I will take a picture of myself everyday for 10 years. That is 3653 days (counting 3 leap days in 2008, 2012, and 2016 respectively). I am very excited about this project, because I want to observer myself changing over time. I will be 35 when the project ends.

Secondly, I am going to begin posting some works of short fiction and poetry on this site. We will see what comes of it.
